Most stocks fall but two Birmingham-area companies post solid gains

Most U.S. stocks fell Thursday, as they did on our Birmingham and Alabama Stock Report, but hopes for coming cuts to interest rates and Wall Street’s continued frenzy around artificial-intelligence technology nudged indexes to more record highs.

On our list, Community Health Systems took the biggest hit at -4.6%.

A pair of area stocks bucked the negative trend with solid gains: First US Bancshares (+4.2%) and Vulcan Materials (+1.9%).
