Police are investigating after a child drowned Thursday afternoon in Opelika.

Dispatch received a call around 4:33 p.m. on a possible drowning in the 2000 Block of Pepperell Parkway, police said.

First responders found the victim, who was not publicly identified, unresponsive at the scene.

The child was taken to East Alabama Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
