Women threaten lawsuit after crash with off-duty Athens officer

Two women who were injured in a head-on crash with an off-duty police officer in north Alabama last fall have threatened a lawsuit and filed claims seeking a total of $2 million.

Maylea Roby-Xicotencatl and Callie Hanna Campbell were traveling on U.S. 72 in Madison when Isaiah Hatchett, an Athens police officer, pulled out into oncoming traffic and hit them head-on, according to public filings obtained by AL.com. The crash happened at the intersection of Wall Triana Highway on Nov. 18 at 2:36 a.m., according to a crash report.

A spokesperson for Athens said that Hatchett, who still works with the Athens Police Department, would not comment for this article because of the threat of pending litigation.
