Before Texas and Oklahoma arrive, let’s decide which SEC school has the best gameday?

When Texas and Oklahoma officially join the Southeast Conference on July 1, the Longhorns and Sooners will bring elite teams in multiple sports to the conference. But will Austin, Texas and Norman, Oklahoma become top gameday stops?

Before those two join the league, it’s time to rank the Sensational Seven football gameday environments in the SEC based on my extensive travels around the league.

These rankings reflect my affinity for small college towns with lots of restaurants, bars and tailgating opportunities near the stadium and campus.

Let’s get to the rankings.

7. Florida: The Gators have one of the great home-field advantages in college football at The Swamp because no place is louder than Ben Hill Griffin Stadium when the Gators are playing a big game. But Gainesville doesn’t have the quaint college feel enjoyed by other SEC towns.

6. Kentucky: Yes, the Wildcat faithful lose some interest in football once basketball practice begins, but Lexington is the most underrated football destination in the SEC. Kentucky might have been even higher on this list before the stadium name was changed from Commonwealth Stadium to Kroger Field.
