Three people were shot at Carson Crest Apartment Complex, one man dead
Birmingham police are investigating a Saturday shooting that left one dead and two others wounded.
Zetarius Free, 23, of Birmingham, was shot and killed at the Carson Crest Apartment Complex, according to a statement released Sunday from Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald, Assistant Public Information Officer/Public Information Division.
East Precinct officers were dispatched about 11 a.m. Saturday to a call of a person shot at 1401 Carson Road, the Carson Crest Apartment Complex. When officers arrived on the scene they learned a shootout had taken place inside the complex.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel located an adult female at a nearby church who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported her to a local area hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Officers learned the victim and an additional adult male arrived at St. Vincent’s East Hospital by private vehicle. The two were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
St. Vincent’s Hospital staff pronounced Free deceased. The second male gunshot victim has life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said the preliminary investigation suggests that Free was involved in an argument with the second male gunshot victim and the two exchanged gunfire. Authorities said they believe the female victim was caught in the crossfire.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Unit, 205-254-1764, or Crime Stoppers, 205-254-7777.
