Two separate shark attacks reported on Florida Panhandle beaches

Two shark attacks on swimmers in the Florida Panhandle — both in Walton County — have been reported Friday.

The first, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, involved a woman near Watersound, a private beach. Officials were notified of the attack just after 1:15 p.m.

The sheriff’s office said deputies and the South Walton Fire District responded to the scene and the woman was transported to an area hospital by the fire department. The extent of the woman’s injuries was not immediately known.

Double red flags were posted in the area of the attack, closing the water to the public.

Just after 3 p.m., however, the sheriff’s office reported a second attack, this one involving a teenager in the area of Shoreline Drive. Again, the sheriff’s office and fire district personnel responded to the scene.

Further details have not been released.

This is a developing story.
