Reporter mistakes football coach for Vince Young in awkward interview at BMW Charity Pro-Am
Vince Young participated in the BMW Charity Pro-Am on Thursday.
Reporter Lauren Withrow was quick to fire off questions to the former Texas Longhorns quarterback during his round. The only problem was it wasn’t him.
Instead, she was talking to The Citadel assistant football coach Everette Sands, which made for an awkward moment on live television.
“In six seasons in the NFL,” she began. “Arguably one of the best NCAA quarterbacks of all time at Texas. Picked up golf about four years ago. What’s the biggest shift you make from going from the ultimate team sport to now the ultimate individual sport?”
Sands stayed professional through his answer.
“Now, I apologize, but you have the wrong person,” he said. “I’m Everette Sands. I’m from The Citadel, which I’m a football coach.
Withrow was quick to own up to the mistake on Instagram, posting to her story the following: “Learn from the mistakes.”
As it turns out, Withrow was talking to a legend. Sands ranks second all-time in rushing yards and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2004.
