Mobile man charged with murder 8 days after being released from jail

A man who had been released from Mobile Metro Jail just eight days earlier is now back behind bars, charged with murdering a man on May 26.

Mobile police said Friday 20-year-old Dennis Earl Lamar was taken into custody Thursday. He is charged with murder and is being held without bond.

Police responded to a location on Duncan Street in Mobile on the night of May 26 after a report of a body found inside an abandoned house. An autopsy revealed the man had died from a gunshot wound and he was identified as 21-year-old Jermont Lamar.

Investigators say the two men were not related.

Ten days before being arrested for murder, Dennis Lamar was arrested and charged with possession of a forged instrument, receiving stolen property and marijuana possession. He spent two days in the Mobile jail before posting a $8,500 bond and being released.

Four days later, he is alleged to have killed Jermont Lamar.

Dennis Lamar is also a convicted felon, having pleaded guilty in 2022 to 1st-degree robbery. He served roughly 18 months of a five-year sentence.
