Mississippi woman keeps coming to Mobile to steal, investigators say

A Mississippi woman is accused of repeatedly coming to Mobile to steal, according to police and Alabama court records.

Tyazia Aniya Gipson, 21, of Gautier, Miss., a coastal community about 40 miles west of Mobile, was arrested Wednesday after police say she was caught stealing items from a Belk department store on Airport Boulevard.

It was the same Belk store, investigators said, from which Gipson had stolen items a week earlier, but had managed to flee the scene before police arrived.

But Gipson was known to Mobile police prior to Wednesday’s arrest.

In February, Gipson was indicted by a Mobile Grand Jury for felony theft of property for the July 2023 theft of a woman’s iPhone at Bel Air Mall. She was taken into custody the day the theft occurred and has been free on $3,000 bond.

With Wednesday’s arrest, however, prosecutors have already filed to have that bond revoked and Gipson to remain in custody.
