Isolated severe storms possible Tuesday in Alabama

Another round of rain and storms will affect Alabama on Tuesday, and a few storms could become severe, according to the National Weather Service.

The strongest storms could have damaging wind gusts and heavy rain. There is a lower probability for some hail, and an even lower probability of tornadoes, although they can’t be ruled out entirely, according to forecasters.

South Alabama was seeing some rain on Tuesday morning as a complex of storms slid eastward along the coast.

Rain and storms will be possible all day today, but the best chance for stronger storms is expected to arrive as early as lunchtime and last into tonight thanks to a weather disturbance passing through.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk for most of Alabama today. A Level 1 (marginal) risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.

There is no severe weather in the official forecast for the rest of the week, but there is the potential for more rain and storms on Thursday into Friday, and it’s too soon to rule out a severe storm altogether.

Drier and warmer weather is expected to take over during the weekend and into next week.
