A few storms and a lot of rain possible in Alabama

The work week could start off on the rainy side for parts of Alabama, according to forecasters.

And there could be a few strong storms in the mix as well.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather on Monday and a Level 1 risk on Tuesday for parts of the state.

A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible. A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.

The strongest storms could have damaging wind gusts and heavy rain. A tornado can’t be ruled out for those in south Alabama, either, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday’s severe weather outlook is at the top of this post. All of south Alabama and south-central Alabama have been upgraded to a Level 2 risk, and the rest of central Alabama and part of north Alabama will have a Level 1 risk.

On Tuesday all of Alabama except the northwest corner will have a Level 1 risk again.

The rain could be heavy at times, with 4 to 6 inches possible through Tuesday for areas in south Alabama, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain has fallen in parts of southern Alabama already today, and the rain chances are expected to climb more later this afternoon into tonight, with widespread rain and storms expected on Monday.

There is no severe weather in the forecast after Tuesday, however the weather service will be keeping an eye on the Thursday night into Friday timeframe for the next storm system, which could bring the potential for more storms to Alabama.
