Fairfield man killed when car leaves I-59 in west Jefferson County, hits tree
An overnight crash on Interstate 59 in western Jefferson County left a Fairfield man dead.
Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Kelvin Mathews. He was 46.
The wreck happened at 11 p.m. Friday on I-59, about two miles north of Fairfield.
Trooper Cpl. Reginal King said Mathews was driving a Cadillac CTS that left the interstate and hit a tree. Mathews, he said, was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Mathews was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead Saturday morning.
The wreck investigation is ongoing by troopers.
