How much rain could Alabama get next week?
“Unsettled” will be the theme of weather forecasts for much of Alabama next week.
It won’t rain all day, every day, but the National Weather Service is expecting several rounds of rain, starting on Monday. Before the upcoming week is over parts of the state could see 3 to 5 inches.
Rain could come in several waves, with the first beginning on Monday and the second near the end of the work week. There could be a few strong storms in the mix as well on Monday.
According to the seven-day precipitation outlook from NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center, south Alabama could see the most rain over the next week (see the map at the top of this post). However all of Alabama will see at least some precipitation through the end of the week.
All that unsettled weather could be enough to raise some flooding concerns, and the Weather Prediction Center has south Alabama in a Level 2 out of 4 risk for flash flooding on Monday into Tuesday and a Level 1 risk for all of the rest of Alabama except the northeast:
There could also be a low chance of strong to severe storms on Monday for parts of south and west Alabama:
The areas in dark green will have a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather, which means that isolated severe storms will be possible. Damaging winds, hail and heavy rain are expected to be the main hazards with any stronger storms.
Rain could last off and on through the end of the work week, according to forecasters, with another weather disturbance expected near the end of the week that could make rain more likely.
So far there is no severe weather risk for Alabama after Monday.
