There’s a familiar name at the top of the leaderboard for the Regions Tradition.

Steve Stricker, winner of three of the last four Traditions including the past two in a row, is back atop the leaderboard at -12 heading into the weekend after a marathon Friday to catch up from a suspended first round due to two rain delays Thursday.

“Yeah, it was a lot of holes today,” Stricker said after his second round. “Took a cart for most of it. So I felt like a Champions Tour player, you know, right in a cart. And but it helps you know, I walked the last nine holes and all the other ones so kind of took advantage of that situation. I played well, in a lot of good shots made some key putts in my head too, and to good scores.”

Stricker shot a 7-under-par 65 on Friday, matching the five 65-shot rounds produced in the first round for the lowest single-round score of the week. He played his final nine holes of Friday in just 31 shots, making five birdies and zero bogeys on the back nine.

Stricker is tied for the all-time tournament record low score after shooting -23 for the tournament last year. He’s on his way to going low again.

But he only has a one-shot lead on Ernie Els, who has finished fourth or better at the Tradition each of the last three years. He was tied for second to Stricker last year. Els was one of the five leaders at the end of the first round at -7. He played his second round at -4 to get to -11 overall. Through 36 holes, Els has not made a bogey.

Five other golfers are within four shots of Stricker. And on a week where weather has already been a major factoring in softening the course, 47 players are under par through 36 holes.
