Former Auburn guard Honesty Scott-Grayson doesn’t make WNBA roster, waived by Mystics

Former Auburn guard Honesty Scott-Grayson has been waived by the Washington Mystics, the team announced Thursday morning.

Scott-Grayson’s waiver came just days before the May 13 cutoff for WNBA teams to finalize their rosters, which consist of just 12 roster spots.

With 12 teams in the league, there are just 144 roster spots available across the entire league, making it increasingly hard for rookies like Scott-Grayson to earn a spot over seasoned veterans, as well as other rookies.

Despite being included in a number of mock drafts, Scott-Grayson slid out of the WNBA Draft on April 15 and settled for a training camp invite from the Washington Mystics.

Scott-Grayson reported to training camp on April 28 in hopes of setting herself apart and making the Mystics’ final roster. On May 4, Scott-Grayson got the opportunity to appear in her first WNBA game as the Mystics visited the Atlanta Dream for a preseason contest.

Scott-Grayson finished the night with six points on a 2-for-5 shotting performance from the field in 5:33 of play. The former Auburn standout was held scoreless in the Mystics’ second preseason game of the year against the Minnesota Lynx on May 8.

Now having been cut by the Mystics, Scott-Grayson will likely shop around for other professional playing opportunities overseas with the hope of getting another chance at a WNBA spot down the road.

During her time at Auburn, Scott-Grayson started 108 games for the Tigers and averaged 14.4 points per game. In her final season on The Plains, Scott-Grayson led Auburn’s scoring efforts with 17.3 points per game and earned a spot on the all-SEC first-team before helping lead the Tigers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019.
