Huntsville police identify suspect sought in club shooting that wounded 5

Huntsville police have identified a suspect they believe was involved in the shooting at a club over the weekend that wounded five people, two of them critically.

Jahtaj Malik Malcolm, 25, is wanted on five first-degree assault warrants in connection with the Sunday night shooting at 708 Bar and Grille at 708 Poplar Ave., said Deputy Chief Michael T. Johnson.

Malcolm’s whereabouts were unknown as of Thursday, and police say he may have fled the Huntsville area.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to call police at 256-772-71000. Those with information who wish to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 256-53-Crime.

Police say five victims were taken to the hospital, ranging in ages from 29 to 40. All were patrons of the business.

“Everyone that was contacted by officers or investigators at the scene last night said they ‘didn’t see anything’ or were not forthcoming with information, however our investigators are still working hard to get answers,” Deputy Chief Michael Johnson said.

Out of all five victims, only one remained in critical but stable condition as of Monday since an overnight surgery, and is expected to survive, police said. The other four are in the process or will be released from the hospital soon.
