Alabama schools announce delays for Thursday, May 9 due to severe weather

Alabama is bracing for potential severe weather from Wednesday night into Thursday, prompting some school districts in the state to announce delays to the start of the school day for Thursday.

The storms could bring the risk of tornadoes, damaging winds and hail.

A tornado watch is in effect until 11 p.m. Wednesday for 11 counties in north Alabama: Cullman, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, DeKalb, Jackson, Marshall, Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale and Lawrence.

As a result, some schools and school districts are rearranging their schedules for Thursday.

These school districts have announced changes:

Haleyville City Schools – Delayed to 10 a.m. Thursday

Limestone County Schools – 2-hour delay Thursday
