Class 7A teams earned spots in the state championship tournament after the first day of AHSAA regional softball action on Monday.

The top two teams in each class from four regionals advance to next week’s state championship tournament in Oxford.

Regional tournaments are being played at Gulf Shores Sportsplex (South), Montgomery’s Lagoon Park (Central), Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park (East), and Florence’s Coffee O’Neal Park (North).

Class 6A and Class 4A teams advanced to the championship round of the winners bracket in the double-elimination tournament on Monday while play in the elimination bracket knocked out two of the eight teams in those classes.

Each regional is comprised of 52 teams – four teams in Class 7A and eight teams in each of the other six classes – competing for 56 spots in the state championship tournament.

The winners bracket champion earns the state tournament No. 1 qualifier while the elimination bracket winner will be the No. 2 qualifier in each class.

Class 7A regional qualifiers for next week’s championship tournament are set. Top-ranked Hewitt-Trussville is the North No. 1 qualifier while third-ranked Hoover is East No. 1, fourth-ranked Central-Phenix City is Central No. 1 and Enterprise is South No. 1.

Class 7A qualifiers: (South) No. 1 Enterprise, No. 2 Dothan; (Central) No. 1 Central-Phenix City, No. 2 Daphne; (East) No. 1 Hoover, No. 2 Thompson; (North) No. 1 Hewitt-Trussville, No. 2 Austin/Spain Park winner.

Class 6A winners bracket games: (South) third-ranked Saraland vs. Baldwin County; (Central) top-ranked Helena vs. Calera; (East) Pell City vs. Oxford; (North) fifth-ranked Athens vs. seventh-ranked Hazel Green/fourth-ranked Hartselle winner.

Class 4A winners bracket games: (South) top-ranked Orange Beach vs. second-ranked Houston Academy; (Central) eighth-ranked Northside vs. Prattville Christian; (East) Cherokee County vs. White Plains; (North) third-ranked Curry vs. sixth-ranked Brooks.

Class 6A and Class 4A finish on Tuesday while Class 5A and Class 1A begin play, finishing on Wednesday. Class 2A and Class 3A start on Wednesday, finishing on Thursday.

Rain delayed start of the North Regional for more than three hours.
