Alabama will likely add Wake Forest transfer DB DaShawn Jones: Report

Kalen DeBoer was right. The spring transfer portal window might be closed, but Alabama football is still reportedly adding talent at a position of need.

According to 247Sports, the Crimson Tide will likely land defensive back DaShawn Jones from Wake Forest. Jones started for the Demon Deacons the past two seasons.

“There’s guys that we’re working through that we will have visits or we’re trying to get them set to come to campus,” DeBoer said on Thursday. “So I think in the end, I feel good about the direction we’re going, with making the roster better, improving the roster. And that’s what it’s about.

Jones had two three at cornerback for Wake Forest last season. He spent three seasons in Winston-Salem before entering the portal during the spring window.

Alabama saw its defensive backs group decimated by the NFL Draft, and the transfer portal, with several leaving after Nick Saban’s retirement. DeBoer pointed to the group as a position where the Tide might try to add numbers during the spring window.

Jones adds experience to a young group, having spent three seasons with Wake Forest. He made 37 total tackles last season, breaking up two passes.

He’ll become Alabama’s second transfer portal cornerback pickup from the state of North Carolina. The Crimson Tide also added former Charlotte corner Kameron Howard during the spring window.

Jones had been on a visit to Alabama before the report. He posted two photos to social media from Tuscaloosa, the most recent on Sunday.

The spring window for portal entry closed after May 1. Players already in the portal can still sign with new schools.
