Decatur police arrest 14-year-old, 3 others after juvenile critically injured in shooting
A shooting Friday in Decatur left a juvenile critically injured and led to the arrest of a 14-year-old suspect and three others allegedly involved in a burglary and vehicle theft committed earlier this year, according to the Decatur Police Department.
On May 3, a juvenile arrived at Decatur Morgan Hospital with a gunshot wound. Officers arrived at the scene of the shooting on 7th Ave. SE and identified the suspect as a 14-year-old male.
The teenager was charged with first degree assault and transported to juvenile detention. The suspect’s name has not been released because he is a minor.
The gunshot victim was transported to Huntsville Hospital and remains in critical condition, according to law enforcement.
Further investigation revealed that the car that transported the victim to the hospital had been reported stolen in February. Officers executing a search warrant at a residence in southwest Decatur also found several stolen guns from a burglary at Bama Pawn on April 30.
Police charged 18-year-old Kaleb Kirk with receiving stolen property and held him at the Morgan County Jail on $7,500 bond.
Two 17-year-old suspects also were charged with receiving stolen property and transported to the Tennessee Valley Juvenile Detention Facility in Tuscumbia.
