North Alabama will have a low risk for a few strong to severe storms on several days this week.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk for parts of north and west Alabama for today (Sunday), Tuesday and Wednesday. The National Weather Service will also be monitoring trends going into Thursday, when there could be another potential for storms.

The SPC thinks any strong storms that develop could have damaging winds and hail. Forecasters so far have not included a risk for tornadoes through the week.

The Level 1 risk for today only includes parts of north and west Alabama (the map is at the top of this post). Most of the rest of the state could have to deal with scattered rain and storms, but organized severe weather is not expected.

There will be a general risk for non-severe thunderstorms across all of Alabama on Monday (except close to the coast again):

Then there is another Level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk for the northern part of Alabama on Tuesday. As of Sunday (and this could change) areas in the Level 1 risk zone included Huntsville, Muscle Shoals, Florence and Decatur, among others.

Wednesday’s risk area — at least as of Sunday — extends a bit father south.

Most of the anticipated rain over the next five days is expected to fall across north and central Alabama, with extreme south Alabama mostly missing out. But big rain totals and flooding are not anticipated.

Parts of north Alabama could see 2 inches or more through Friday if they get hit with multiple showers and storms. Areas near the coast might not get any rain, according to the above forecast.
