Pell City man killed in I-65 Chilton County crash
A Pell City man died early Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Chilton County.
Sgt. Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said the incident occurred at about 4:20 a.m. on Interstate 65 near the 212 mile marker, approximately one mile north of Clanton.
Justin D. Washington, 36, a passenger in a 2022 GMC Savana van, was fatally injured when the van left the roadway, struck a cable barrier and overturned. Washington was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, Burkett said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van, Karlmarick J. Thompson, 23, of Birmingham, was also injured and transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
