USFWS: Belle Mina quarry will be detrimental to endangered species

The proposed quarry near the heart of the Belle Mina community is likely to have “more than minor detrimental effects” for three endangered snails that are within Limestone Creek, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Ecological Services Field Office of the USFWS made the formal determination on March 6, according a letter from the Environmental Protection Agency to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
