Katie Britt-sponsored RAWA would benefit wildlife conservation in Alabama

It seems that a week doesn’t go by now that someone doesn’t post a photo on the Internet of a black bear that has shown up somewhere in Alabama where black bears have never been seen before. Some people even post photos of a harmless snake they’ve killed inquiring if anyone knows what kind of snake it is.

There are still many who hold to the belief that the only good snake is a dead snake. There are those who want the state to do something about black bears because suburbanites don’t need those “killers” roaming their neighborhoods.

Coexisting with wildlife is nothing new. It’s a challenge that Americans have dealt with since the pilgrims landed. Way too many times the solution has been to kill the animals, whether it be for safety or food. Many have the attitude that if a species becomes extinct, so what? A turtle or a bird that ceases to be doesn’t affect my life one bit.
