Alabama 2024 season win total odds: Sportsbooks shaded toward Under 9.5
Almost all of the major online sportsbooks have posted their college football team win totals for the coming season.
It’ll certainly be a strange, new-look season with Oklahoma and Texas joining the Southeastern Conference and former Pac-12 Conference members primarily headed to the Big Ten, Big 12 and Atlantic Coast Conferences.
Aside from a Nov. 23 road date in Norman, Okla., to visit the aforementioned Sooners, Alabama’s 2024 schedule has a familiar look with four non-conference contests and seven home dates among the 12 games.
However, the Tide’s 2024 slate ranks as one of the toughest in the SEC with its 12 foes combining for a 91-55 record a season ago.
Among those coming to Tuscaloosa this fall are Georgia (Sept. 28), Missouri (Oct. 26) and rival Auburn (Nov. 30) while the key road games include visits to Wisconsin (Sept. 14), Tennessee (Oct. 19), LSU (Nov. 9) and Oklahoma.
It all begins Aug. 31 with a home matchup against Western Kentucky of Conference USA.
So with the coaching change, roster turnover (see the following section) and the demanding schedule, it shouldn’t be a shock that oddsmakers shading Alabama under its posted 9.5-win total at consensus -150 odds.
It’s a good time for a reminder that college football win totals are for the regular season only, which means that victories in conference championship and bowl games aren’t included.
After last season’s 12-2 campaign (11-1 regular season), which ended with a 27-20 loss to eventual national champion Michigan in the College Football Playoff semifinals, Alabama has finished with 10 or more regular season victories in each of the last 13 seasons.
So if you expect the trend to continue under the new regime, you’ll find the best over 9.5 wins value with the +130 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Alabama 2024 season win total odds: Crimson Tide undergoes roster makeover
As could be expected with the coaching change and annual NFL exodus (10 players drafted), Alabama enters 2024 without nearly 50 players from its SEC-championship squad of last season.
Among those returning are starting quarterback Jalen Milroe, a 2023 Davey O’Brien Award semifinalist, running back Jam Miller, last month’s spring game MVP, and linebacker Jihaad Campbell, the team’s third-leading tackler in 2023.
There are a plethora of holes and depth concerns at several key positions, though, including wide receiver, offensive line and the defensive secondary.
But Bama, as usual, had a loaded recruiting class this offseason — one that ranked second nationally by 247Sports.
Among the newcomers expected to make immediate impacts are WR Bubba Hampton, offensive lineman Casey Poe, linebacker Justin Okoronkwo and cornerbacks Jaylen Mbakwe and Zabien Brown.
