Sam’s Club members will soon see major change at checkout
Sam’s Club is rolling out artificial intelligence technology that will confirm members’ purchases as they exit the stores.
The new verification technology, which replaces physical receipt checks, has so far been deployed at 120 Sam’s Club locations across the United States, reports USA Today.
Under the system, customers will pay at the register or via Scan & Go, and then the combination of computer vision and digital technology will capture images of the carts and verify payment of all items within a member’s basket before they leave the store.
In a press release, Sam’s Club said more than half of Sam’s Club customers have used the option at stores where the technology is available, which has helped members leave clubs 23% faster.
The bulk retailer first announced the technology in January.
Earlier this year, Sam’s Club also announced a digital chance to allow people to order cakes online. The retailer announced digital cake ordering at 30 Sam’s Club locations with plans to roll out to all clubs throughout the year. With the technology, members are able to customize their cakes, add them to carts, schedule pickup and shop for other groceries all in a single transaction.
