2 dead found in Huntsville home, early morning standoff continues
Huntsville police were at the scene of a standoff Wednesday morning after the bodies of two people were discovered in a home shortly after midnight.
According to Deputy Chief Michael Johnson, officers were originally called to a home in the 12000 block of Mt. Charron Drive at around 12:30 a.m. to investigate shots being fired.
As officers arrived, they saw a person walking away from the home.
“This person feigned compliance momentarily, then ran from officers as they approached him and is now barricaded in a neighboring home from the original call,” Johnson said.
Once officers entered the home where the call originated, they found the bodies of two people. Police have not yet publicly identified the people or given a cause of death.
According to Johnson, surrounding homeowners have chosen to remain in their homes as police attempt to get the man out of the nearby home.
Johnson said police have “attempted several tactical methods to get him to come out” and have used phone negotiators.
“More tactical decisions are being made at the moment to bring this to as a safe ending as possible,” Johnson said.
