Tuesday AHSAA softball roundup: 4-run final inning gives Spanish Fort area title

Spanish Fort scored 4 seventh inning runs that included a two-out, 2-run homer in a 6-5 victory over Baldwin County to earn the Class 6A Area 2 title on Tuesday in AHSAA softball action.

Baldwin County broke a 2-all tie in the seventh with 3 runs, setting up the dramatic finish.

After two Spanish Fort walks and a strikeout for the second out in the seventh inning, Haley Hart’s 2-run single closed the margin to 5-4.

That’s when Kennedy Sevcik hit the first pitch she saw over the center field fence for the thrilling win.

Sevcik led the sixth-ranked Toros (33-14-1) with 3 hits, 2 RBIs and 2 runs. Ella Grace Nobles had a double and RBI while Kenzie Boullon and Raeleigh Hocker had hits.

Mallarie Beagle got the win in the circle, pitching 5 2/3 innings while surrendering 3 hits with an earned run and striking out 7.

Baldwin County’s Madilyn Byrd was 2-for-4, both doubles, with 4 RBIs.

The winner and runnerup in each of 16 areas in Class 1A-6A and eight areas in Class 7A advance to one of four regionals starting on May 6.
