UAB cornerbacks Mac McWilliams and Colby Dempsy enter transfer portal

The UAB football program is losing both of its starting cornerbacks to the spring transfer portal window.

UAB senior cornerback and three-year starter Mac McWilliams has entered the transfer portal, a source confirmed to AL.com.

247Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz were the first to report the news.

After redshirting in his first year with the program, McWilliams suffered season-ending injuries the next two years but managed to make 12 starts while collecting 41 tackles (4 for loss), 13 pass breakups and one interception. He completed his first full season in 2023 while accumulating 52 tackles (2 for loss) and eight pass breakups.

Colby Dempsey also entered the portal and announced his decision on social media.

Dempsey appeared in 21 games heading into last season and started seven games in 2023, collecting 37 tackles, nine pass breakups and an interception.

McWilliams and Dempsey’s decision to enter the portal leaves UAB with five cornerbacks on its roster and only one, sophomore Ricky Lee III, with starting experience.
