Trump maintains lead over Biden, new poll shows; 55% say Trump presidency a ‘success’

Former President Donald Trump continues to lead President Joe Biden heading into the November election, according to the latest poll.

The poll, conducted by SSRS for CNN, shows Trump’s support among registered voters at 49% when compared head-to-head against Biden. Trump’s figures are the same as the last national CNN poll conducted in January. Biden’s support, however, dropped 2 percentage points to 43% compared to 45% in January’s poll.

Overall, 55% of respondents to the poll said they now see Trump’s presidency as a success, while 44% see it as a failure. That’s compared to 61% who said the Biden presidency has been a failure and 39% said it was a success. Among Republicans, 92% defined Trump’s time in office as a success compared to just 73% of Democrats who said the same about Biden. Among independents, 51% said Trump’s presidency was a success compared to 37% for Biden.

The CNN poll was conducted by SSRS from April 18-23 among a national sample of 1,212 adult that included 967 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
