Alabama’s Jase McClellan taken by Atlanta Falcons in NFL Draft’s 6th round
Alabama football running back Jase McClellan came off the board at pick No. 186 by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. He became the eighth Alabama player to be taken in the 2024 draft.
McClellan was Alabama’s top running back in 2023, split carries throughout the season, splitting some carries with Roydell Williams. He rushed for 890 yards and eight touchdowns in his final season.
He played in 12 of Alabama’s 13 games this past season. He missed the Crimson Tide’s SEC championship game victory against Georgia in what will be his new home stadium, but returned in time to play in the Rose Bowl, where he scored two touchdowns.
McClellan, a Texas native joined UA as a member of the class of 2020. He contributed mostly on special teams his freshman year, before playing more as a sophomore.
However, his 2021 season was cut short due to a knee injury. McClellan returned in 2022 to become Alabama’s backup running back, before moving up the depth chart for his final season.
McClellan became the second Alabama player picked on Saturday, the third day of the draft. Defensive end Justin Eboigbe was taken at pick No. 105 by the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Falcons finished 7-10 last season, missing the playoffs and coming in third in the NFC South. Atlanta fired head coach Arthur Smith once the year ended, and Raheem Morris will lead the team for the 2024 season.
