Alabama reality TV star bracket, Final vote: We have a winner
The results of the AL.com Alabama Reality TV Star Bracket. Fans picked “American Idol” judge and Tuskegee native Lionel Richie as their all-time favorite reality star from the state.
The finals came down to Richie and “American Idol” season two winner and Birmingham native Ruben Studdard.
Richie, who served as co-lead singer Motown legends the Commodores, is a pop superstar thanks to hits like “Easy,” “Sail On,” “Three Times a Lady,” “Still,” “You Are,” “My Love” and “Truly.” Other massive hits include “All Night Long (All Night)” and “Hello.”
In 2018, Richie became a judge on the ABC reality singing competition series “American Idol,” where he has served on the panel for seven seasons alongside Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
In 2023, Richie returned to Tuskegee, where he was born and raised, for a hometown special on “American Idol.” The pop and R&B icon showcased his roots for his fellow judges, visiting significant sites such as Tuskegee University (Richie’s alma mater), the Tuskegee Municipal Complex and Richie’s new Hello Park, named for his famous song.
Alabama’s biggest reality TV fans are passionate about their favorite stars. They voted in several rounds to determine the greatest personality in the state’s decades-long history on air. Other stars who made it tough on Richie and Studdard were “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks, “Bachelorette” lead Hannah Brown, “Last Comic Standing” standout Roy Wood Jr., and “Dancing with the Stars” competitors Jordan Fisher and Noah Galloway.
