Former American Christian standout learns NFL destination
The Houston Texans selected Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter at No. 42 in the NFL Draft on Friday night.
The second-round pick was a standout at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa.
The cornerback started every game for Georgia in the past two seasons. During Lassiter’s three seasons with the Bulldogs, Georgia lost two games and won two CFP national championships.
Lassiter joined Georgia after winning the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A Back of the Year Award for the 2020 season. As a senior at American Christian, Lassiter had 32 receptions for 833 yards and 11 touchdowns on offense and 74 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and two interceptions on defense.
The Patriots won their first 13 games that season before falling to Handley 34-13 in the AHSAA state semifinals. American Christian posted a 36-4 record in Lassiter’s final three seasons.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, Lassiter recorded the fastest three-cone drill among the participating players in 6.62 seconds. He had a 4.12-second time in the shuttle run, which was the ninth-fastest in 2024.
The three-cone drill is meant to measure a player’s ability to change directions while the shuttle run tests a player’s lateral quickness.
