Bob Jones girls’ basketball coach Jazmine Powers Carr resigns

Jazmine Powers Carr has resigned as girls’ basketball coach at Bob Jones High School.

Carr’s Patriots were ranked No. 1 throughout the 2023-24 season. Bob Jones lost to four-time defending state champion Hoover 58-55 in the Northwest Regional finals. Bob Jones finished the season at 29-4. The Patriots’ loss to Hoover ended a 20-game winning streak.

“This was solely my decision,” Carr said. “This is what’s best for me and my family.”

Carr said she plans to continue teaching at Bob Jones, but is not sure what the future holds.

Bob Jones principal Sylvia Lambert could not immediately be reached for comment.

Carr compiled a 108-41 record in five years at Bob Jones. Before coming to the Madison school, she coached for two years at Homewood High School and for a year at Cornerstone Christian in Birmingham. Her career mark as a head coach is 158-79.

The Decatur native is an Austin High graduate who played basketball and received her degree at Samford University. She worked for four seasons as an assistant at Samford.
