A death investigation is currently ongoing after a body was found Thursday in Limestone County.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West said the body was discovered Thursday evening off Newby Road in Athens.

The body has been sent to the Department of Forensic Services for an autopsy.

West said the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
