Ford recalls 500K cars: If you have one of these trucks, bring it to your dealer for free repairs

Ford is recalling more than 450,000 of its Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick pickup truck vehicles due to a battery malfunction.

According to an announcement from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the vehicles are being recalled due to failure to detect a low battery charge. An undetected battery charge can result in a loss of electrical power, which could lead to the power being cut off to the engine and electrical features of the vehicles while driving.

The issue could also cause the loss of electrical accessories such as hazard lights, or cause the loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall covers certain models of the 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick.Owners of the vehicles should bring the cars to dealers. Dealers will recalibrate the body control module and power train control module, free of charge.

Ford is sending letters to owners starting May 13. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 24S24.
