South Alabama OL Adrein Strickland enters transfer portal

South Alabama offensive lineman Adrein Strickland has entered the NCAA transfer portal, AL.com has confirmed.

Strickland, a native of Panama City, Fla., started all 26 games at right tackle the last two seasons for the Jaguars. A redshirt junior, he has two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-6, 332-pound Strickland — who was committed to Florida for a time in high school before the Gators back off on signing him — missed much of spring practice due to injury, and played mostly guard when he was on the field. Sophomore Malachi Carney started the Jaguars’ spring game at right tackle, with Strickland working as the second-team right guard.

Strickland’s departure leaves senior Reed Buys, junior Reid Gavin and sophomores Kenton Jerido and Lucas Taylor as the candidates to start at guard. Carney appears slotted in at right tackle, with returning starter Jordan Davis on the left side.

Strickland (whose first name is pronounced “Adrian”) is one of two high-profile South Alabama players who entered the portal on Friday morning, along with linebacker Khalil Jacobs. The Jaguars have lost four other players — safeties Keith Gallmon, Jamarrien Burt and Tremel States-Jones and wide receiver Caeleb Schlachter — to the portal since the end of spring practice.

Football players have until April 30 to inform their schools they are entering the transfer portal. Strickland re-entering the portal was first reported by 247 Sports.

South Alabama went 7-6 and won the 68 Ventures Bowl in 2023. The Jaguars open the 2024 season at home Aug. 31 vs. North Texas.
