Alabama U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville said Thursday that if former President Donald Trump wins the presidential election in November, the fight over Space Command’s headquarters will be settled in favor of Huntsville.

Tuberville made the comments on WAFF in Huntsville during an interview.

“I think the election will have a big say in where it’s going to be,” Tuberville said.

“It’s not settled. They can’t spend any money toward expanding Space Command until this last review is done, which will be after the election. If President Trump gets elected, there will be a lot of employees moving from Space Command to Huntsville.”

The headquarters has been in Colorado Springs, Colo. since the command was started.

As he was leaving office in 2021, Trump announced Huntsville as his choice for the command’s headquarters. Two reviews named Huntsville as a prime location. However, President Biden named the Colorado site as headquarters last summer, with Alabama lawmakers promising to continue the fight.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R) inserted language into the 2024 national defense budget blocking Colorado from being the permanent headquarters.
