Birmingham’s Pack Health plans expansion, to hire 200
Birmingham-based Pack Health this morning announced a $5.66 million expansion which will add another 200 full-time jobs to its workforce.
The startup, formed in 2013, provides health coaching and self-management skills through a digital platform. The services are aimed at addressing chronic conditions and comorbidities influenced by mental health, behavior, access to care and other factors. The company experienced serious growth in demand as telehealth boomed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Birmingham Business Alliance projects the expansion will have an overall economic impact of up to $27 million over 20 years.
The expansion will also increase Pack Health’s headquarters on 12th Street North from 25,000 square feet to 46,000 square feet. The building currently houses programmers, developers, health advisors and other positions. Following the expansion, the bulding will also include a larger fitness center, walking trail and extensive healthy food options for employees.
Founder Mazi Ruslnia said the company was pleased to work with state officials on the project. The Alabama Department of Commerce, the BBA, the Jefferson County Commission and the City of Birmingham were also involved.
“Beyond our pride at what we have accomplished in the last few years, we are extremely proud to add 200 positions to Jefferson County and expand our capabilities in connecting diagnostic insights to our members managing chronic health conditions,” he said in a statement. “These benefits will go a long way towards furthering our work building a healthier community, bringing better therapies to patients and lowering medical costs.”
