WTVM 13 announces new morning anchor

WVTM 13 announced on Monday it added Scott Carpenter to the news team as an anchor and reporter.

A WVTM press release said Carpenter will co-anchor WVTM 13′s 4 a.m., 5 a.m., and 6 a.m. newscasts every weekday morning alongside Carla Wade, meteorologist Stephanie Walker, and breaking news anchor Sarah Killian.

“Scott’s experience with morning news, his reporting, and his thirst for connecting with a community make him an ideal new member of the WVTM 13 team,” said WVTM 13 President and General Manager Susana Schuler, per the release. “He joins a talented team working daily to help Central Alabama wake up fully informed and energized about the day ahead.”

Carpenter, who graduated from Heidelberg University in 2017, has served as a morning anchor and traffic anchor at KCCI, a Hearst-owned CBS affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa. Prior to KCCI, Carpenter worked as sports director for the NBC affiliate in Columbus, Georgia. He has previously covered Southeastern Conference football, investigative reports, and “This is Iowa” stories.

“I am thrilled to return to the Southeast and join the incredible group of dedicated journalists at WVTM,” said Carpenter, in the release. “I’m excited to be a part of this great morning team and look forward to sharing the stories that matter to our viewers. My wife and I are happy to call Central Alabama our home.”

“Scott is a welcome addition to our stellar morning news team,” WVTM 13 news director Kerri Sutton said. “His experience and love of storytelling will have a great impact on both our local community and the station. I can’t wait for our viewers to wake up with Scott, Carla, Stephanie, and Sarah.”
