Former Auburn point guard Tre Donaldson announces transfer destination

Shortly after Tre Donaldson entered his name into the transfer portal on April 3, his name started being tied to Michigan.

In a social media post Sunday morning, Donaldson confirmed as much, announcing that he’d be transferring to join the Wolverines.

Donaldson’s decision to leave Auburn follows his sophomore campaign, which saw him average 6.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Donaldson also finished the year with a 3-point shooting percentage of 41.2% while starting 10 games this past season.

Throughout the entirety of the 2023 season, Donaldson split starting point guard duties with former Auburn guard Aden Holloway, who announced his decision to transfer to Alabama on Saturday.

A former two-sport standout out of Tallahassee, Fla., Donaldson committed to Auburn in August of 2021 as a 3-star athlete who intended to play both football and basketball for the Tigers, but later decided to focus on the latter.

Donaldson joins a rebuilding Michigan team that went 8-24 last season, which led to the firing of Juwan Howard as the Wolverines’ head coach. Michigan hired former FAU head coach Dusty May as its head basketball coach.
