Man found shot to death in west Birmingham yard early Sunday morning

A man was found fatally shot in the yard of a west Birmingham home early Sunday morning, according to police.

At about 2:15 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched in the Pratt community on a report of shots fired.

A man was found unresponsive in the yard, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham firefighters pronounced him dead on the scene.

No one is in custody and few details, including the victim’s identity, were immediately available.

“We believe a community member heard shots being fired in the 10 block of Holt Avenue and dialed 911,” said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
