Quinnen Williams: ‘My goal is to catch a sailfish’
New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams will be back on the water on Saturday, and this time, he’s not just happy to be there.
The former Alabama All-American is among the 14 NFL players announced as participants for the Sport Fishing Championship’s second “The Catch” event. Williams also participated last year.
“My excitement level is a 10,” Williams said, “because last year I was coming in, just wanted to catch a fish. But this year, like, my goal is to catch a sailfish, so I’m kind of super excited.”
Williams will be paired with his brother, New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams, as Team OneWater Yacht Group on “Lifeline” with captain Blake Bridges.
“The Catch” features teams of NFL players and SFC anglers in an offshore fishing competition to benefit the Coast Guard Foundation. The fishing tournament will use the SFC’s billfish catch-and-release scoring system for the seven boats set to leave Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“The Catch” will be televised live on CBS Sports Network at 2 p.m. CDT Saturday. The competition will stream on Paramount+.
The Williams brothers are former Wenonah High School standouts, and former Pleasant Grove High School star James Bradberry also is competing.
A former Samford standout, Bradberry is a cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles, and he’ll be paired with an NFL teammate, defensive tackle Jalen Carter. They’ll make up Team Salt Life with captain Rob Carmichael on “Lights Out.”
“I’m pretty excited,” Bradberry said. “I’m just excited to be on a boat in the water doing something different. Like I said, I don’t fish a whole lot, but it’s something I’m interested in, so I’m excited to go out there.”
The other announced NFL players on teams are Dalvin Cook and James Cook, Alvin Kamara and Rakeem Mostert, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux, Jeffery Simmons and Rachaad White and David Njoku and Trey Hendrickson.
