35-year-old woman arrested on drug trafficking, contraband charges outside Alabama prison
A Mobile woman was arrested early Friday on drug and contraband charges after she was found outside an Alabama prison.
Chasity Cox, 35, is charged trafficking methamphetamine, prohibited activities, first-degree possession of marijuana and first-degree promoting prison contraband.
Officials at Staton Correctional Facility were alerted at 1:56 a.m. to a suspicious vehicle on state property, said prisons spokeswoman Kelly Betts. The K9 team located Cox, her vehicle and discovered a suspicious package.
The contents of that package have not yet been disclosed.
Cox was booked into the Elmore County Jail shortly before 6:30 a.m.
“Stopping the flow of illegal contraband into ADOC facilities is critical to reducing drug abuse, overdoses, and inmate violence,’’ ADOC Commissioner John Q. Hamm said in a prepared statement.
