Alabama prison employee charged with giving cell phone chargers, food to inmate

An Alabama state prison employee was arrested after authorities say she supplied contraband to an inmate.

Lashonnon Zibrica Belser, 39, is charged with third-degree promoting prison contraband. That charge is a misdemeanor crime.

Belser was taken into custody Thursday morning at Ventress Correctional Facility in Barbour County where she was a correctional security guard.

Charging documents state she delivered cell phone chargers and food to an inmate at the facility.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
