Watching Friday again for possible storms

A few severe storms will be possible in the northern and central part of Alabama on Friday, according to forecasters.

And a few storms that moved into north Alabama have already reached severe limits as of Friday morning.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is maintaining a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather today for parts of north and central Alabama. A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.

Today’s strongest storms could have damaging winds and hail. Hail up to 1 inch has been reported this morning in northwest Alabama’s Franklin County, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.

Those storms have weakened below severe limits as of 7 a.m., according to the weather service.

The storms that were affecting north Alabama Friday morning are expected to sag southward during the day today. Those storms combined with the heat of the day could possibly cause them to intensify again, which is why the Level 1 risk is in place.

No severe weather is expected in south Alabama, and that region may again not get any rain.

More unsettled weather is in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday, but there are no risks for severe weather.

Sunday looks to be the day with the best rain chances statewide.
