Meet Alabama’s 5 best boys high school basketball players

Who were the five best high school basketball players in Alabama for the 2023-2024 season?

The Alabama Sports Writers Association announced its Super All-State (or Super 5) team on Tuesday at the annual Player of the Year Banquet in Montgomery. The event was sponsored by ALFA Insurance and the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.

The Super 5 was headlined by Mr. Basketball, Buckhorn sophomore Caleb Holt.

Here is a look at the complete Super All-State team followed by the boys players of the year and coaches of the year for the 2023-2024 season.

Cam Dooley, F, Valley (Senior)

Dooley was named Class 5A Player of the Year. The Kentucky football signee led the Rams back to the final four after Valley won the state championship a year ago.

He averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game as a senior. The 6-foot-4 standout also had 40 steals and 32 blocked shots.

Ty Davis, G, Mountain Brook (Senior)

The Class 6A Player of the Year finalist signed with Creighton.

A 6-foot-5 senior, he led the Spartans back to the 6A title game this season. He averaged 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists for his coach and father, Tyler Davis. He also had 64 steals.

AHSAA 7A boys: Huntsville vs. Enterprise

Caleb Harrison, F, Huntsville (Senior)

Harrison led the Panthers to the Class 7A final four and was a finalist for 7A Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-10 Samford signee averaged 18.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists this year. He also had 65 blocked shots.

DeWayne Brown, F, Hoover (Junior)

Brown was named Class 7A Player of the Year after leading his team to a second straight state title.

At 6-foot-9, he averaged 15.5 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2 assists per game for the Bucs and also had 87 blocks.

Caleb Holt, G/F, Buckhorn (Sophomore)

The state’s 42nd Mr. Basketball winner is now a two-time Class 6A Player of the Year. He was also named the Gatorade and Max Preps Alabama Player of the Year.

He averaged 20.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in leading the Bucks to their second straight 6A title.
