Why are they called the Trash Pandas?

Although the Trash Panda name might sound insulting, it’s a pop culture reference to raccoons. It’s so popular it was even incorporated in the hit movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The Trash Pandas were formerly known as the Mobile BayBears, but moved to a different city and officially underwent a name change in 2020. The Trash Pandas have completed three full seasons of Minor League Baseball thus far. They won first place in 2022 with an 81-57 record but lost in the semifinals of the playoffs to the Tennessee Smokies.

After having a difficult season in 2023, the Trash Pandas are looking to bounce back and make the playoffs again this year. Currently, the team is tied for first with the Birmingham Barons with both squads posting a 5-4 record.
