Skeletal remains found by hunter in Talladega National Forest ID’d as 43-year-missing man

Skeletal remains found earlier this year in the Talladega National Forest have now been identified as a missing man.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade on Tuesday identified the remains as Nicholas Weston Turley. He was 43 lived in Talladega County.

Turley was reported missing last year. His car had previously found on Forest Service Road with items inside that led investigators to believe it belonged to Turley.

A hunter found a skull and a jawbone on Jan. 29, 2024, in a secluded wooded area near the 193-mile marker. That location was near the Cleburne County line.

The remains were collected and forwarded to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for possible DNA identification.

Wade said the manner of death is undetermined and still under investigation. However, there is no evidence at this time of foul play.
