Alabama gunshot victim flown to hospital in serious condition, police say

A central Alabama gunshot victim was flown to the hospital Monday in serious condition, police said.

A suspect in the shooting, which occurred Monday in Tallassee, is in custody, said Tallassee Police Chief N. Todd Bruce.

Officers responded to the area of 3rd Avenue and Cherry Street on a report of a person shot, Bruce said.

The victim, only identified as a male, was contacted by police at Tallassee Community Hospital.

The victim identified LaJonathan Kennebrew, 39, as the alleged gunman, said Bruce.

The victim was later taken to Baptist Hospital in Montgomery via LifeFlight helicopter in serious condition, the chief said.

Kennebrew turned himself in to Tallassee police and was in custody as of late Monday afternoon.

Kennebrew was charged with first-degree assault.
